Why I don't live in the country
Friday, 2 October 2009

This is a photo of a thrift shop in the tiny dingly village of Innerleithen near Edinburgh. It is full of jigsaws, but it is far to extravagant to actually buy them. Only jigtastic borrowing is allowed. The website blurb reads....
"There are over 200 members of the jigsaw library which is run in the shop. Registration is free and members pay 50p per month for each jigsaw borrowed"
200 membes eh? I bet that gets the country pulses racing.

It's hard to think of anything more boring than doing jigsaws. Watching paint dry, maybe. But it's probably just a cover for something much more racy. "Would you like to try my jigsaws, wink wink, nudge nudge...."

I disagree. Jigsaws are great - I like the ones from jigzone.com which are formed of tiny lizards. This is my kind of shop. Charity shops in London fancy themselves as Vintage Emporiums and charge £5 for a pair of saggy New Look leggings.

Hey, lizards? I just love lizards. I could get into that.

Nick: Clearly it's a cover for wife swapping.
GVH: lizard jigsaws sound well funky, can't wait to try them.

A Jigsaw library? Oh, I want to go there!! 50p a month - what a bargain.

I like the adjective "dingly": I am not sure what it means and yet am absolutely sure it describes Innerleithen perfectly!

But this is the country. Actually buying a jigsaw would be too much excitement.
Actually, I agree with Nick. It's got to be cover. I bet there are dungeons out back.

I love doing jigsaws...music on in the background, wine in hand...not done one in an age!!

well, if you're into that kind of out of control aberrational behaviour.
I'm much too staid for it.

Can't bare jigsaws! What a waste of time, hours making it just to break it up at the end!
