Zen and the art of birthday party preparation
Saturday, 9 May 2009
Step 1: Have a fruit and veg pink parrot smoothie
Step 2: Attend a tai chi class and do a sunlight meditation
Step 3: Stay calm and breeeeathe
Step 4: Use incense and oil burners to mask potential sweaty boy-ness
Step 5: Step away from the junk food
Step 6: Hide in kitchen with earplugs while the guests play noisy computer games
Step 7: Take the little darlings to Laserquest** (see below) and totally beat them at it.
Step 8: Send out for a takeaway/ get Bobo to rustle up something delish for tea
**"Laserquest is a high tech combination of tag and hide and seek. With the world’s most advanced laser tag equipment available, Laser Quest is played in a large, multi-level arena with specialty lighting, fog and heart pounding music. Players, whether individually or on teams, use their lasers to tag their opponents’ sensors, and score as many points as possible."

Laserquest is small boy HEAVEN. The one my two go to is horridly scuzzy and grubby but they love it. It does however have a real old-fashioned arcade version Space Invaders game in the waiting area, so I forgive it.

I totally kick butt at laserquest. We have one of those places right by my house.
You are taking tai chi? I am very jealous. How is it?

Suburbia: Laserquest was key to the experience. And I felt full of energy afterwards.
Lane: I totally slaughtered the little darlings, just as mummy promised!
Loth: I think we go to the same scuzzy Laserquest. The kids were so well behaved at the party, they didn't even ask for money for the space invaders, they just pretended to play it.
WWW: Absolutely, and remember to wear your trendy new purple togs.
C and C: Oh yeah baby, I'm on it.
Working mum: Just wait until they are old enough not to be scared witless. Even the 9 year olds though the place was flooding when the dry ice appeared.
kccat: Laserquest so rocks.
And I would highly recommend Tai chi (or tie cheese, as the kids called). It totally helps balance the chakras and everything. I can't get enough of it.

Did you really beat them at Laserquest? You are such a cool mum!
