I was considering Marvel comics, he'd love that. He also loves reading recipes and then cooking stuff.

Astrosaurs books. My boys LOVED them - started off reading them to them (if you see what I mean) and they graduated to reading them by themselves. They have an added incentive because they come with sort of trading cards inside the cover. The same author does the "Cows in Action" series. Secret service cows - how could they resist?

I don't know what age that means.
I guess quite young. Does he like animals? Dick king-Smith. Funny poetry? Horrid Henry? Harry Potter - start him off by reading them to him. I used to know so many good books! Elder Son isn't a reader; Younger Son is.
Oh, what are they called? The House That Sailed Away and others by pat hutchins.
