Can't take the pressure
Wednesday, 15 April 2009
My charity shop purchase pressure cooker has just sucked ALL the water out of my home made soup. And because I 'forgot' to put in a stock cube, I am left with a pile of, well, lumpy veggies. Grrrrrr. Nigella doesn't have these woes.
Lets hope my homemade sundried tomato and rosemary foccaccia is less of a f**k up lol.

Crock pots - slow cookers do a better job, I find, plus the smell of fine home cooking after a day out in the saltmines does something for the spirits...

Great tip. I haven't used one in ages. I wonder what curry would taste like in it.

Never compare yourself to the Nigella. It's just asking for pain.
I like to remind myself that Nigella's 'kitchen' is a film set just outside of Dagenham, in Essex. I'm surprised she doesn't get kids breaking in on the weekend and leaving poos on the grill.

Hey, foccaccia would be a brilliant Scrabble word if I ever had 4 Cs. As for soup, we never have any - problem solved. And I bet Nigella's cooking is all rigged - don't believe what you see on these swanky chef progs.

I now feel marginally less foolish for having been scared of pressure cookers all these years. I was just nervous of all the hissing and stuff. I never realise that they could dehydrate your food too! Soup you can slice is not good. (Unless it's my Granny's lentil soup on the second day which had the consistency of tile grout and tasted of heaven.)

You just can't trust those pressure cooker thingys! They're far too scary for me, and noisy. Threaten it with a trip back to the charity shop, I'd say, and see if that will make it behave ;)

Pressure cookers are brilliant for soup! Don't give up! Did you cook it too long?

My mum had one of those. It always seemed more trouble than it was worth. I agree with Wisewebwoman - a slow cooker is the answer.

Sorry to hear about your soup. :( My mom had one of these pots too. I remember the sound of the steam coming out the top. Good luck next time.
Sorry to get back to you so late, I have been lazy with my blog lately...too much running. I run with hip hop, dance, latin, and anything else that is high energy and will keep me going. Congrats on starting your own running program. How is it going? Hope you stick with it if you like it. Google C25k programs aka Couch to 5k to find a training program thats not crazy hard.
